Xenon Mercedes built before 2016: lenses that part cleanly
Mercedes closed many of its pre-2016 xenon headlights with a sealant that turns pliable once it is warmed. The old lens can therefore be lifted away without a struggle and a new one seated in fresh sealant.
That makes lens replacement on these units a straightforward repair, and a sensible alternative to a new headlight when the lens is cracked, crazed or yellow.
Dim xenon light that new bulbs did not cure
On older Mercedes xenon units, the small glass lens at the front of the projector slowly clouds over. A trace of gas from the bulb leaves a smoky film on it, and the beam loses its punch.
Owners often fit new bulbs and see little change. Cleaning the projector glass restores the light output, and the bulbs you already have may be fine.
Condensation and LED faults on any Mercedes
Water inside a Mercedes headlight is stopped by resealing the lens joint, whatever the model or year. On LED units, a dead board is replaced together with its heatsink and a failed driver is swapped for a new one.
