Mercedes E-Class Headlight Lens Replacement (W211, W212)
Mercedes E-Class headlight lens replacement takes off a lens that has yellowed, crazed or cracked and fits a clear new one to the headlight already on your W211 or W212. The xenon or LED parts inside carry on as before, and the car keeps its own unit.

Signs the E-Class lens has had its day
- A yellow or brown cast that returns after every polish.
- A web of hairline cracks under the surface.
- A stone strike that has split the lens through.
- Light at night that looks scattered and dull.
Any of these points to a lens that needs replacing rather than restoring.
Why the W211 and W212 usually suit a lens swap
Xenon headlights on Mercedes models made before 2016, which takes in the W211 and most W212s, were usually sealed with a compound that loosens when heated. The worn lens lifts off, the channel is cleaned and the replacement goes on with new sealant.
The internals stay in place throughout, and your car keeps the light pattern it left the factory with.
W211 or W212: what to tell us
The W211 ran from the early 2000s and the W212 replaced it towards the end of that decade. Both came with halogen or xenon headlights, and later W212 cars could have full LED.
The year of registration and one photo of the front are usually enough to identify the unit. If your car has halogen lights, a new unit tends to cost less than the work, and you will be told so.

Doing the projector while the lens is off
On xenon E-Class units, the glass at the front of each projector can take on a grey haze over time, which dims the beam. Since the headlight is open for the new lens, that glass can be cleaned in the same job.

E-Class lens questions
Would polishing the E-Class lens be enough?
On a lens that has crazed or yellowed through, polishing only thins the damaged layer and the cloudiness returns. A replacement lens is what is offered.
Does a cracked lens matter for the MOT?
The MOT inspection manual records a headlamp lens that is slightly defective as a minor defect, and one that is seriously defective or missing as a major defect.
