Privacy Policy

This policy covers the personal data that reaches us through this website: what it is, why we hold it, who sees it and the rights UK data protection law gives you over it.

Who is responsible for your data

The controller of personal data collected on headlightrepairshop.co.uk is the business that trades as Headlight Repair Shop. Registered address: supplied on request through the quote form. Information Commissioner's Office registration: supplied on request through the quote form.

For anything to do with your data, write to us through the quote form and start your message with the words "Privacy request".

What we collect

Only what you type or upload in the quote form:

  • your name and email address, and a phone number and postcode if you choose to give them;
  • the car's make, model and year of first registration, and its number plate if you add it;
  • the fault, which side the headlight is on and anything else you tell us;
  • the photos you attach;
  • whether you are asking as a business, and which page of this site you sent the form from.

Like any website, the servers that deliver these pages also handle technical data such as your IP address, browser type and the pages requested. That data is used to deliver the site and keep it secure, not to build a profile of you.

Why we use it and on what legal basis

  • To price the repair, reply to you and, if you go ahead, receive, repair and return the headlight. The legal basis is taking steps at your request before a contract, and then performing that contract.
  • To phone or text you about your request, if you have given a number. The legal basis is the same as for the quote: steps you have asked us to take before a contract. Tell us if you would rather hear by email only.
  • To keep the records that tax and accounting rules require. The legal basis is a legal obligation.
  • To block spam and misuse of the form and the site. The legal basis is our legitimate interest in keeping the service working.

Your photos are looked at only to judge the headlight and its fault. We do not use your details for marketing and we do not sell them.

Who else sees it

Your request reaches the business that trades as Headlight Repair Shop, the controller named above, which uses it to prepare your quote and arrange the repair. If the repair itself is carried out by another workshop, that workshop receives only what it needs for the job.

A small number of providers handle data on our behalf and under our instructions: website hosting, the database where requests are stored, the spam check on the form (Cloudflare Turnstile), and the services that deliver your request to us as an email or message. If the headlight is sent by courier, the carrier receives the name and address needed for delivery. We share data with public authorities only where the law obliges us to.

Some of these providers may process data outside the UK. Where that happens, it is done under the safeguards that UK data protection law recognises for international transfers.

How long we keep it

Requests that do not turn into a repair are deleted once they are no longer needed to answer you. Details of repairs carried out are kept for as long as tax and accounting rules require.

Your rights

Under UK GDPR you can ask us to:

  • give you a copy of the data we hold about you;
  • correct anything that is wrong or incomplete;
  • delete your data, or stop using it for a while;
  • stop using it where we rely on legitimate interests;
  • pass the data you gave us to you, or to someone else, in a common electronic format.

We reply to requests within one month.

If you are unhappy with how we have handled your data, please tell us first so we can put it right. You also have the right to complain to the Information Commissioner's Office, the UK's data protection regulator, at ico.org.uk.

Cookies

What this site stores on your device, and why, is explained on the cookies page.

Security

Pages and form submissions travel over an encrypted connection, and access to requests is limited to the people who need them to deal with your repair. No system is completely secure, but we take reasonable care to protect what you send us.

Changes

If this policy changes, the new version is published on this page with a new date at the top.
