Fleet Headlight Repair

Fleet headlight repair keeps vans, pool cars and lorries earning when a unit is cracked in a loading bay or a running light burns out mid-contract. The original headlight is repaired rather than replaced, which avoids paying for a complete new unit on every vehicle. Fleet managers and transport workshops send the unit, and their own technicians refit it.

Vans off the road for a headlight

On vans the MOT applies the same headlamp checks as on cars. A lamp that does not work, or a lens that is seriously defective, is a major defect.

A Transit or a Vivaro parked up for want of one headlight is a vehicle that is not earning. Your technicians take the unit off when it suits the rota, and it goes back on when it returns.

Damage found at vehicle checks

Drivers' walkaround checks are where most headlight faults on a fleet first get noticed. Each of these is put right inside the unit:

  • Stone-chipped or cracked lens: replaced with a new one and sealed in.
  • Moisture behind the glass: resealed once the inside is dry.
  • Dark LED section or running light: the board or strip is renewed and bench-tested.
  • Lamp loose in its mountings: a tab kit or a fresh housing.

The electronic side of these faults is covered on LED Headlight Repair.

Lorries: see the Scania page

Lorry and bus headlights are repaired the same way as car and van units. On Scania R and S Series cabs from roughly the last ten years, failed daytime running lights are a common complaint, set out on Scania Headlight Repair (R and S Series).

Motorbike headlights are not repaired, as parts for them are almost impossible to find.

Collection from the depot

Units can be picked up from one depot or several; how that works is arranged with your quote. Pack each headlight in its own box, because van and lorry units are bulky and two together will scratch each other.

Billing to your company is set out in your quote, and terms for a fleet with steady volume are discussed when you ask for a trade quote.

Questions from fleet managers

Do you repair bus headlights?

Yes. A photo with the make and model is enough for the quote to confirm it.

Who takes the headlight off the vehicle?

Your own workshop or maintenance contractor. We repair the unit and send it back for them to fit.

How long is each vehicle without its headlight?

The time away is set per unit in the written quote. Sealed headlights need a full cure before they travel back, so same-day turnaround is not possible.

Photos of the headlight, the vehicle and its registration year are enough for a written quote.

Send the details, get a price back

Say which car it is and what the headlight is doing, add a couple of photos, and your quote arrives by email. Nothing has to come off the car until you have agreed to it.
