How Our Headlight Repair Works

Our headlight repair runs in four stages, and the car stays with you throughout. Photos come first, the price second, and the headlight only leaves once you have said yes.

Send photos and the car's year

Use the quote form: make, model and year, which side, and a few photos. A shot of the whole headlight and a close-up of the fault are usually enough.

For an electrical fault, such as a running light out or a beam that cuts out, add a photo or short video with the lights on. Those faults rarely show on a unit that is switched off.

Your quote

The quote says what has failed, what will be replaced and the price. Nothing is ordered and nothing needs removing until you have agreed it, so the car stays in use meanwhile.

How long the work takes, and when to take the headlight off, is confirmed in your quote. As for payment, how and when to pay is set out in your quote.

Courier within the UK or collection

You or your garage take the headlight off. Pad it so it cannot shift in the box, and if you are sending a pair, give each one a box of its own so they cannot knock together.

A typical car headlight weighs five or six kilos and needs a carton around sixty centimetres long, so a sturdy one beats a bag.

How the headlight travels each way is set out in your quote. Collection instead of a courier can be arranged where it suits both sides; mention it on the form. The unit never leaves the UK, so there is no customs paperwork.

Opened, repaired and checked

The unit is opened, the failed part renewed, and every board that can be powered on the bench is lit before the headlight is sealed.

If something else turns up once it is open, you are told what and why before any extra work. You can say no and have the headlight back as it was.

Back on the car

The headlight returns the way it went, and you or your garage refit it. Where the dipped beam only works when connected to the car, that is when it gets its final check.

For cover after the repair, the terms of any guarantee are set out in your quote.

Questions about sending a headlight

Can I keep using the car while I wait?

Yes. The headlight stays fitted until the quote is agreed and you are told when to take it off.

Does a garage have to remove it?

No. You can take it off yourself if you are comfortable doing so; plenty of owners ask their usual garage instead.

Can I send a headlight from the Republic of Ireland?

No. The service covers the United Kingdom only.

Start with the photos

The form takes a few minutes, and nothing is sent anywhere until the quote is agreed.

Send the details, get a price back

Say which car it is and what the headlight is doing, add a couple of photos, and your quote arrives by email. Nothing has to come off the car until you have agreed to it.
