Skoda Octavia DRL Repair

Skoda Octavia DRL repair brings back a running light that has gone patchy, dull or dark, by renewing the strip or board inside the headlight. It keeps the original unit on the car, which matters on a high-mileage Octavia where a new headlight is a large bill.

Running light faults on the Octavia

On Octavias with xenon or LED headlights, the running light is an LED strip built into the unit. Over time it can lose brightness in places, take on a yellow tint or stop lighting altogether.

The headlight is opened, the failed strip or board is taken out and a new one goes in. Nothing else in the unit is replaced, and the cover is resealed afterwards.

Octavias with halogen lights may run the daytime light from a bulb instead; if so, a new bulb is the fix and no repair is needed.

Condensation in an Octavia headlight

Mist that stays inside after a run, or droplets that collect at the bottom of the cover, mean the seal has opened. The fix is to lift the lens, clear out the old sealant, dry the inside and seal it again.

If the running light has failed in a unit that has also held water, both are dealt with while the headlight is open. Things to try yourself first: How to Remove Condensation From a Headlight.

Fabia: lens replacement

On the Fabia the usual complaint is the cover. When it has dulled or cracked, a new lens is bonded onto the original housing. Halogen Fabias are often cheaper to fit with a new unit, and the quote will say if that is the case.

Octavia running light questions

Is the running light tested before the Octavia headlight is returned?

Yes, the replacement strip or board is lit up and checked before the Octavia unit is closed. An LED dipped beam is the exception, because it needs the car's electronics to be checked.

I drive the Octavia for work. What should I send?

A short video of the lights coming on, a daylight photo and the year of registration. That is enough to quote without taking the car off the road.
