MINI Cooper Headlight Repair
MINI Cooper headlight repair looks after the round headlights that give the car its face. A crazed or cracked cover is replaced, a dark LED ring or running light is renewed, and a unit with a snapped mounting tab is made secure again, all without a new headlight.
Round covers that have crazed or cracked
A MINI's headlights sit right at the front corners of the bonnet, which leaves their domed covers open to stones and to the odd parking knock. Haze, crazing and cracks follow.

R56 and F56: two kinds of headlight
The R56, sold until 2013, had halogen headlights as standard and xenon as an option. The F56 that followed offered LED units with a running light ring around the edge.

A halogen R56 unit is rarely worth repairing because a new one is cheaper. Xenon and LED units are a different story.
LED ring, xenon and mounting faults
- LED ring or running light partly out: the board or strip inside is renewed.
- Xenon beam failed: new ballast or igniter, after the bulb is ruled out.
- Mounting tab snapped after a bump: fixed with a tab kit, or the internals moved to a fresh housing.
- Water inside: cover lifted, joint cleaned and resealed.
New boards and rings are tested under power before the MINI unit is resealed. If opening it reveals more damage than the photos showed, you are told first and can have it returned without the extra work.

Would a tab kit or a new housing suit my MINI better?
A kit is quicker and does the job. A new rear housing hides that the unit was ever damaged, which some owners prefer before selling the car.
