Range Rover Velar DRL Repair

Range Rover Velar DRL repair is for the running light that lights up as you start the car and then cuts out moments later. It is a well-known Velar fault, and it is cured inside the existing headlight rather than by ordering a new LED unit.

One headlight, three running light boards

The slim running light along the top of a Velar headlight is not powered by a single part. Three separate LED boards share the job, and it only takes one of them failing for the running light to start misbehaving.

The repair renews all three boards as a set, not just the one that has given out. They go in with the headlight open, after which the unit is sealed and tested.

The fault as you see it from the driver's seat

Start the car and the running light comes on as normal. A few seconds later the light on the faulty side goes out.

This on-then-off pattern is the clearest sign of a failed board in a Velar unit. A short phone video of it happening is the most useful thing to send with your quote request.

Why not just buy a new headlight?

A replacement LED unit for a Velar is a costly part, and the fault sits in components that can be changed on their own. Keeping your original headlight also means everything else in it that still works, from the lens to the main beam, stays in service.

All three new boards are switched on and watched on the bench before the Velar unit is boxed up. More on running light work: LED Headlight Repair.

A running light that cuts out and the MOT

The MOT inspection manual, in its section 4.2 on position and daytime running lamps, lists an inoperative running lamp as a major defect. If your Velar has its test coming up, mention the date when you ask for a quote.

Velar running light questions

Is the problem the control module behind the headlight?

On a Velar with this symptom, the cause is normally one of the three boards inside the unit. That is why the boards are renewed rather than an external module.

Can both headlights be done at once?

Yes. If the other side has started doing the same thing, send a video of both and the quote will cover the pair.
