Honda Civic Headlight Repair

Honda Civic headlight repair sorts out the two things that usually go wrong: a cover that has turned cloudy or cracked, and an LED block or daytime light that no longer comes on. Your Civic keeps its own headlight, with only the worn or failed part renewed.

A new cover for a Civic headlight

Civic owners tend to keep their cars for years, and the headlight covers show it: a yellow tinge, a rough surface and, sooner or later, a crack from road debris. Polishing only skims the surface.

Replacing the lens deals with it properly. The cover is separated from the housing, the groove cleaned and a new lens bonded in place, leaving the light source and reflector exactly where Honda fitted them.

LED and running light faults on later Civics

The tenth-generation Civic introduced LED headlights on many trims, with a running light strip inside. When a section or the running light goes dark, a board or driver has usually failed.

  • Dark LED board: replaced together with its heatsink.
  • Driver fault: a new driver fitted.
  • Running light dull or out: strip or board renewed within the unit.

CR-V, Jazz and HR-V

The same repairs apply to Honda's other popular models. Misting is cured by lifting the cover and resealing it, and LED faults are dealt with board by board. Where a CR-V has xenon lights and the dipped beam fails, a new ballast or igniter goes in.

Where a Jazz or older Civic has halogen lights, a new unit is generally cheaper than repair, and you will be told so when the photos arrive.

Honda headlight questions

Can the dipped beam be tested before the Civic headlight comes back?

Running lights and LED boards are lit on the bench. An LED dipped beam needs the car's own electronics, so it is confirmed once the unit is refitted.

One side is fine. Does the other headlight need doing too?

No. Only the faulty unit needs work, although new covers on both sides keep the front looking even.
