BMW X3 Headlight Repair

BMW X3 headlight repair is mostly about two jobs: stopping water getting into the unit, and fitting a new lens where the old one has cracked or clouded. Both are done on your existing headlight, across the E83, F25 and G01 generations.

Water inside an X3 headlight

A tall SUV front takes spray from every lorry on the motorway. Once the bead of sealant around the lens starts to fail, that spray ends up inside as fog, droplets or a small puddle at the base.

Resealing means parting the lens from the body, cleaning the old material out of the channel and closing the unit with new sealant. Any chrome the water has eaten into is restored while it is apart.

New lens for a cracked or crazed X3 unit

Stone chips, a car-park scrape or plain age will leave an X3 lens split or hazed. A replacement lens is bonded to your housing, and the projectors, LEDs and wiring are not touched.

Running light modules on later X3s

Where an X3 running light has darkened or shows heat marks, the LED module behind it is replaced inside the unit. A short video with the lights on helps pin down which section has failed.

On BMW's thin housings, a slight witness line at the joint can be left after opening. Sealing and function are what the job is measured on.

If the module on the other side is the same age, you may choose to have both done so the two lights match. That decision is yours, and the quote shows each side separately.

X3 headlight questions

Can I keep driving the X3 while the quote is sorted?

Yes. The quote is worked out from your photos, so the headlight stays on the car until you decide to go ahead.

Will an X3 headlight with condensation be rejected at the MOT?

The MOT inspection manual does not list condensation. A tester assesses whether the lamp lights, how the lens and reflector look and whether the beam is aimed correctly.

See the other series on BMW Headlight Repair. The repair time for an X3 unit is confirmed in your quote.
