# SEAT Leon Headlight Repair

SEAT Leon headlight repair usually starts with a running light that has faded from white to a deep amber on one side. That, a lens crazing from within and moisture behind the cover are the three jobs this page explains, all done on the headlight you already have.

## A running light gone dark amber

The Leon is one of the cars most prone to this. Its running light is a strip that carries the glow from a row of LEDs, and those LEDs sit so tight against it that the heat slowly cooks it brown.

The LEDs themselves are often fine, which is why a new module bought online leaves the colour unchanged. The scorched strip is taken out and a new one fitted, then the unit is sealed again.

## Lenses that craze from the inside

Some Leon units develop a web of fine cracks that sits inside the cover rather than on its face. You cannot feel it with a finger and no polish will reach it.

The cure is a new lens. The old one is lifted off the housing, the groove is cleaned out and the new cover glued in, leaving the reflector and projector as they were.

## Water behind the cover

Moisture that stays after a drive means the seal has opened up somewhere along the edge. Resealing the lens is the fix; the inside is dried and cleaned while it is apart.

Damp and a cracked cover often turn up together after a knock, and both can be sorted in the same visit. More on lens work: [Headlight Lens Repair and Replacement](https://headlightrepairshop.co.uk/headlight-repair/lens-replacement/).

## An amber running light at the MOT

The MOT inspection manual covers daytime running lamps in section 4.2. A lamp whose colour does not meet the requirements is recorded as a minor defect, while one that does not light at all is major.

## Leon headlight questions

### Both of my Leon running lights look slightly yellow. Should both be done?

If one is clearly darker, that is the one to fix now. Doing the pair at once keeps the colour matched, and the quote can price either option.

### How do I know whether my Leon has a halogen or a full LED unit?

A photo of the headlight lit up shows it straight away. Add the year of registration and the trim if you know them.

## Have your Leon headlight assessed

A short video of the running light coming on is the quickest way to show the fault.
