# Porsche Cayenne Headlight Condensation and DRL Repair

Porsche Cayenne headlight condensation is cured with a full reseal of the unit, which keeps the original headlight on a car where a new one is a major expense. The same page covers the Cayenne's running light, which fails differently from most cars.

## Water behind a Cayenne lens

A large SUV headlight has a long seal to keep tight. When part of it lets go, wet weather and pressure washing push moisture inside, and it settles as droplets along the lower edge of the lens.

Leaving the lights on, or removing the rear covers to air it, clears the glass for a short while and no longer. The repair that deals with the cause means separating the lens, removing the failed sealant and closing the unit with new material all the way round.

Damp that has sat inside for months can dull reflectors and trim; those are refinished while the unit is apart.

## Why a dead Cayenne running light can mean a new centre module

On many cars the running light is a strip or board that can be changed by itself. On some Porsche headlights, though, the running light is part of the central light module, together with the main lighting functions. Your photos show whether your Cayenne's unit is built that way.

In that design there is no separate strip to swap, so when the running light dies, that central module is replaced as one piece inside your headlight. The housing, lens and remaining parts are kept.

The general picture for LED units is on [LED Headlight Repair](https://headlightrepairshop.co.uk/headlight-repair/led-headlights/#daytime-running-lights).

## Other Porsche models

Macan, Panamera and 911 headlights are assessed the same way, from photos and the year of registration. Water inside is resealed and a cracked or crazed lens is replaced, whichever Porsche it comes from.

## Cayenne condensation and DRL questions

### Can a Cayenne running light be fixed without opening the headlight?

Not when the running light is built into the central module, as that module sits inside the sealed unit. The lens is lifted, the module changed and the headlight resealed.

### Does condensation in a Cayenne headlight count against it at the MOT?

There is no condensation item in the MOT inspection manual. The test covers whether each lamp works, the state of its lens and reflector, and how the beam is aimed.

### What should I send for a quote?

The year of registration, a daylight photo of the headlight, one with the lights on and a short video if a light cuts in and out.

Timing for a Porsche unit is confirmed in your quote.

## Keep your Cayenne's original headlights

Send pictures of the water or the dark running light, and the reply sets out the repair.
