# Ford Focus Headlight Lens Replacement (Mk2, Mk3)

Ford Focus headlight lens replacement swaps a cover that has gone cloudy, crazed or cracked for a clear new one, fitted to the housing already on your car. Mk2 and Mk3 units both take it, and any damp inside is dealt with at the same time.

## Why a new lens rather than a polish

A polishing kit sands the outer skin of the cover and leaves it clear for a season or so before the haze creeps back. Cracks, and crazing that runs into the plastic, are beyond any polish.

Fitting a new lens removes the problem at its source. The old cover is cut free, the sealing channel is cleaned and the replacement is bonded on and left to cure.

## Focus Mk2 and Mk3: what to expect

Most Mk2 cars, including the facelifted ones from 2008, have halogen headlights, with xenon offered on higher trims. The Mk3 added xenon units with an LED running light, mainly after the 2014 facelift.

A new halogen unit can cost less than fitting a lens to the old one, and if that is the case for your car the quote will say so.

## Condensation in a Focus headlight

When droplets hang inside the cover for days, the seal has a gap. With the lens off for replacement, the joint is cleaned back and resealed as part of the same job, so the new cover does not mist up.

If your lens is still clear and only the damp needs curing, the unit can be resealed with its original cover. Self-help checks are in [How to Remove Condensation From a Headlight](https://headlightrepairshop.co.uk/guides/remove-headlight-condensation/).

## Focus lens questions

### Will the beam pattern change after a new lens?

No. The reflector and projector inside are not moved, so the beam stays as Ford set it. It is still worth having the aim checked at your next service.

### Can just one side be done?

Yes. If the other cover is still clear there is no need to touch it, although a pair keeps both sides looking the same.
