# BMW Headlight Repair

## Laserlight units: a new laser module

On BMW headlights with Laserlight, a fault in the laser main beam is put right by fitting a new laser module inside your unit. The module is not repaired internally, and nothing else in the headlight has to change.

The same applies to the LED boards behind the rings and main beams: a failed board is swapped, complete with its heatsink.

## X6: lenses and running lights

On the X6, two repairs come up. A cracked or crazed lens is replaced on the original housing, and a running light that has faded or gone dark is fixed at the board or light guide.

## Condensation in BMW headlights

Water behind the lens of any BMW, from a 1 Series to an X5, stops only when the unit is resealed. If it has been inside long enough to dull the reflector chrome, that is re-coated while the lens is off.

## An honest word about BMW housings

BMW builds its headlight bodies from slim plastic. When the lens is separated, a faint line can sometimes remain at the joint, more so on recent models.

The aim of the repair is a unit that is sealed and works as it should. If a showroom finish at the seam matters more to you than the saving, a new headlight may suit you better, and that is a fair choice.

### Can the running light ring be changed without opening the headlight?

On some BMW units the running light board is accessible from the rear and can be swapped with the lens left sealed. On others the headlight has to be opened; your photos tell which.
